A modern-day story of fortune-seeking in the world of West Texas oil rigs. A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. It is usually the landowner’s job to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Basically, they manage the land and secure their leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, worker housing (the human camp), oversee the assembly of drilling equipment, and the drilling of the site itself, especially in remote areas. They are also part-time repairmen, problem solvers, and facilitators. Referenced on CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). Could have easily been rated 8.5-9. If it weren’t for the annoying and overly sexualized daughter & ex-wife/mother. They don’t serve the plot and are just plain annoying and insulting to the women of West Texas. Being far from West Texas myself, I understand where Sheridan is coming from in a way, but it’s awful. West Texas women are the strongest and most ambitious women I know. Other than that, the writing and acting are excellent. Another Yellowstone is easy for Sheridan if she gets rid of the very awkward cocoon between the families. But again, love Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and an absolutely very enjoyable show, for the most part.
